Guidelines

We understand that coming to the clinic can be stressful. You don´t need to worry. We take care of everything. Here is a quick overview what happens

Pre-Op Guidelines

Documentation and Testing:

Complete and submit the Patient Questionnaire.

Perform all required pre-operative tests, including blood tests, urinalysis, and imaging studies. These tests must be completed within one month prior to the procedure.

Medications:

Discontinue blood thinners such as aspirin, warfarin, or other anticoagulants 5–7 days before surgery, or as directed by your physician.

Avoid herbal supplements, vitamins, and minerals one week prior to the procedure.

Continue prescribed medications unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider.

Diet and Hydration:

Fasting is typically not required for minor outpatient procedures but may be required for surgeries involving anesthesia. Follow your physician’s specific instructions.

Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to your procedure to promote recovery and minimize risks.

Lifestyle Adjustments:

Quit smoking and avoid alcohol consumption at least two weeks prior to the procedure to enhance healing and reduce the risk of complications.

Inform the clinic of any recent illnesses, allergies, or changes in your health.

Preparation:

Arrange for someone to accompany you and drive you home after the procedure.

Bring comfortable clothing and any necessary items (e.g., prescription medications, inhalers, identification).

Peri-Op Guidelines

On the Day of Surgery:

Follow any specific instructions provided, such as fasting if required.

Arrive at the clinic or surgical center at the designated time for check-in and pre-operative preparation.

Bring a list of all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements.

For longer procedures, consider bringing personal comfort items, such as a book or tablet, for use during waiting periods.

During the Procedure:

Depending on the type of procedure, you may receive local, regional, or general anesthesia.

The medical team will monitor your vitals and ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Post-Op Guidelines

Recovery Period:

Most outpatient procedures allow you to return home the same day. Plan to rest for at least 24 hours post-procedure.

Resume light activities as tolerated, but avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise for 1–2 weeks or as advised by your doctor.

Wound and Catheter Care:

If a catheter was placed, follow your provider’s instructions for maintenance and hygiene. Catheters are typically removed within 3–7 days post-procedure.

Keep the surgical site clean and dry. Showering is allowed 48 hours after surgery unless otherwise instructed. Avoid soaking in baths or swimming pools for at least 3–4 weeks.

Pain Management:

Mild discomfort is common and can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers such as acetaminophen. Avoid NSAIDs unless cleared by your physician.

Contact your doctor if you experience severe pain, swelling, or other concerning symptoms.

Diet and Hydration:

Drink plenty of water to flush your urinary tract and prevent infections.

Return to your regular diet as tolerated. Start with light meals if nausea occurs due to anesthesia.

Follow-Up:

Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments to monitor recovery and ensure proper healing.

Additional testing or imaging may be required to confirm the success of the procedure.

Lifestyle Adjustments:

Avoid sexual activity for 1–2 weeks or until cleared by your physician.

Prevent constipation by maintaining a high-fiber diet and using stool softeners if necessary to avoid straining during bowel movements.

Warning Signs:

Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you experience excessive bleeding, fever, chills, difficulty urinating, or signs of infection at the surgical site.
